The former Clariant site on Bawtry Road, Selby is under new ownership.
Industrial Chemicals Limited (ICL) has completed the purchase of the 35 acre site from Clariant Production UK Ltd who announced their intention to sell in 2008. The financial details of the sale have not been disclosed.
The new owners whose core businesses include the supply of water treatment chemicals, flocculants and detergents plan to use the site as an additional manufacturing facility to the five they already operate in the UK. ICL also has a site in Louisiana, USA.
Peter Butcher, Sales Director of ICL said: ‘This is an excellent site in a location which compliments our existing UK and European footprint.
‘We look forward to breathing new life into the site and in doing so create opportunities for people living in the area.’
The site comprises a northern section containing the production area and includes various multi level factory areas, offices, stores, laboratories, warehousing, plant rooms, switch rooms, workshops and ancillary space.
The southern section benefits from an extant outline consent, due to expire in 2012, to expand current operations into this area.
The sale was concluded on behalf of the vendors by the Leeds office of chartered surveyors, Eddisions.
Simon Croft, director in the agency department at Eddisons said: ‘This is a good deal for all parties and one which allows the sites’ existing infrastructure to be fully maximised.
‘We received serious enquiries from a number of different parties which reflected the variety of potential uses the site offers.’
In 2009 Eddisons also completed the sale of the former Clariant industrial complex in the Aire Valley, close to Leeds Bradford International Airport.
The firm also worked with Clariant to secure new premises for their UK headquarters.
